Overview

The Hundred Acre Woods was a Philadelphia-area folk rock band formed in late 2009, rooted in the Chester County and West Philly DIY scenes. Known for high-energy live shows, rotating instrumentation, and emotionally charged songwriting, the band blended folk traditions with punk urgency and basement-show chaos.

Members frequently swapped instruments and vocal duties, incorporating banjo, mandolin, field organ, and electric guitar into sweaty house shows across Philadelphia, Newark (DE), and surrounding college towns.

Interviews & Press

“It’s hard to describe. I say rowdy folk. The energy of punk and the wisdom of folk.”
— Zack Reinhardt, The Temple News

In a 2012 interview with The Temple News, the band described their sound as constantly evolving, shaped heavily by Philadelphia’s basement show culture. Recording sessions ranged from cabins in the Poconos to closets lined with cedar wood, emphasizing atmosphere over polish.

“My favorite part of our music is playing in a sweaty, drunk basement.”
— Pat Loundas
